Elope in Estes Park
There is something undeniably powerful about choosing a place that feels bigger than you to begin your forever. That’s exactly what draws couples to elope in a national park. As experienced elopement photographers we’ve had the honor of capturing love stories surrounded by towering peaks, alpine lakes, and beautiful open fields with wildlife surrounding them. Whether its exchanging vows at sunrise with the mountains glowing behind you or saying “ I do” beside a peaceful lake let us strip away the pressure and expectations that often come with large weddings. You get to slow down, breathe, and actually experience your wedding day instead of rushing through it.
Estes Park is one of our favorite locations because it’s the perfect balance of accessibility and wild beauty. You don’t have to trek miles into the backcountry to find breathtaking views (but we totally can if that’s your vibe). We also try to schedule two shoots while there. Whether we start in the morning with sunrise and then break for lunch to come back and shoot the afternoon with vows in the evening. You are able to customize your day however you wish. We will have all the trails and sites planned out for you. If you’ve ever imagined a wedding day that feels peaceful, adventurous, and completely your own, a national park elopement might be exactly what you’re looking for. And we’d be honored to capture it.
Key Permit Details for RMNP
Permit Fee: $300 non-refundable application fee.
Application Process: Download, fill out, and email the Special Use Application to romo_fees_permits@nps.gov.
Timing: Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, but must be submitted at least seven days before the wedding.
Designated Locations: Weddings are only allowed at specific, pre-approved locations, such as Sprague Lake, Lily Lake, or Hidden Valley.
Restrictions: Maximum party sizes range from 10 to 30 people, and vehicle limits apply (often 3–10 vehicles).
Important Considerations
Timed Entry: Depending on the season, you will likely need a Timed Entry Permit in addition to the wedding permit to enter the park.
Leave No Trace: RMNP strictly enforces environmental protections, including staying on trails, no drones, no wildflower picking, and no amplification of music.
Alternatives: If you don't need a formal ceremony inside the park, you can opt for a $50 photography permit, hold a ceremony outside park boundaries (e.g., in the town of Estes Park), and do photos inside.
Marriage License: You can get a marriage license in any Colorado county clerk's office (e.g., Larimer County in Estes Park).
